Book Review And Preview: Girl Underwater By Claire Kells

This is a book review and preview of Girl Underwater by Claire Kells that was recently published by Penguin, Duton on 1 April 2015.

Claire was born in Philadelphia and writes in her spare time, this is her debut novel, and if it's anything to go by I'm sure it won't be her last.

This is the story of 19 year old College student Avery who survives a plane crash in the Rocky Mountains with a fellow student Colin and 3 little boys.

Avery has flashbacks throughout the book and each chapter alternates between her time in the Rockies and her time before and after the plane crash.

The story deals with post traumatic stress disorder and shed some light on what life after a traumatic event can be like. Sometimes it seems you need to survive life, after surviving such an event, and  it gave me an appreciation for anyone who has been through PTSD.

This book is brilliant, well written, and from a first time writer I was very impressed. I loved all the characters and felt a connection to all of them. The last quarter of the book especially my heart was lodged in my throat as I wondered how the jilted love triangle between Avery, Colin and her boyfriend was going to end.

I recommend this book to anyone who has been through PTSD and likes their fiction to have a mixture of adventure and drama.

I give this book 5 stars out of  5
